Julia Kent
Cellist and composer Julia Kent makes music using layered and processed cello, electronics, and found sounds, creating haunting and evocative soundscapes that range from hushed intimacy to cinematic expansiveness. After performing and recording as a member of pioneering cello group Rasputina and Mercury Prize winners Antony and the Johnsons, she has gone on to release five solo records, most recently on UK label Leaf.
In addition to her solo albums, Julia Kent has developed a rich career as a commissioned composer, having written original scores for numerous films, TV series as well as theatre and dance performances. Recent standout commissions for the Julia the past couple years include scores to the Arte TV Series “Twice Upon A Time” by Guillaume Nicloux, feature doc “Stories From The Sea” by Jola Wieczorek, feature biopic doc “Buried Seeds” by Andrei Severny and Bolivian / American drama feature “Tu Me Manques” by Rodrigo Bellott.
Julia has toured throughout Europe and North America, including appearances at Primavera Sound in Barcelona, the Donau festival in Austria, Meltdown in London, the Unsound festival in New York City, Reeperbahn in Hamburg, CTM in Berlin, and Mutek in Montreal. Currently Julia is collaborating with Lubomyr Melynk and Spime.Im on an audiovisual performance entitled “The End of The World”.
